Michael Kinnell / Principal / Kinnell & Co
Michael was born and raised in New Plymouth and attended New Plymouth Boys’ High School before he studied Law and History at the University of Canterbury. Michael embarked on an 18-year institutional banking career, spending five years at The National Bank of New Zealand in Wellington before heading to Melbourne and London with National Australia Bank holding various institutional foreign exchange, interest rate and commodity roles. Returning to New Zealand in 2007 Michael became Head of Markets Sales in Auckland with Bank of New Zealand and returned to Taranaki in 2011 with BNZ Private Bank.
In 2015 Michael left the banking industry to establish his own firm with a strong sense of the need for clients to receive quality independent advice. Having been a keen investor since his teenage years Michael has always been interested in the behavioural science and psychology of investment markets and believes in taking a longer term strategic approach to managing investment capital. Michael is Treasurer of the Taranaki branch of the New Zealand Shareholders Association and is on the board of the New Plymouth Golf Club.
Qualifications
- LLB (Hons) & BA (History), University of Canterbury, Christchurch, NZ.
- Graduate Diploma in Applied Finance & Investment, Securities Institute of Australia, Sydney.
